Barnes mosaic tote

Our sturdy canvas tote reverses the colors of the mosaic to a starkly graphic white on black design. Approximately 17 in. wide × 11 in. high (43.18 × 27.94 cm.), not including the strap handles, which are 12 in. (30.48 cm.) long.

Make it a set with our Barnes Mosaic Mug or Eyeglass case.

Designed by Barnes Foundation architect Billie Tsien of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architecture, the tile mosaic (which can be found in the entrance court) in the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Court, is inspired by a Ghanaian kente cloth pattern called the liar's cloth. The name comes from its use in tribal law; a chief or elder wears the fabric when adjudicating on truth versus lies. The mosaic pays homage to Dr. Barnes's integration of African work in his collection.  For more information about the details of the architecture of the Barnes Foundation's campuses, please see The Architecture of the Barnes Foundation.
