Fleur de Lis Ornament
The Fleur de lis is a stylized lily with a long history of association with European countries, especially France, where many of the paintings and ironwork in the Barnes Foundation's collections originate.
Imported from Great Britain. Handmade by highly skilled craftspeople in India, working through the British Association of Fair Trade Suppliers, adhering to these 10 Fair Trade Principles. Made using the traditional method of zardozi embroidery. Zari (meaning gold) embroidery originated in Persia and reached India in the 12th century. It is a highly skilled embroidery technique that traditionally used gold wires and jewels to embellish courtly robes. Zardozi work is a rare and respected craft, the skills of which are handed down from generation to generation. Approximately 5⅛ × 3¾ in. (13.01 × 9.52 cm.), not including the hanging loop.
