About

Our Mission

Purchases from shop.barnesfoundation.org support the educational mission of The Barnes Foundation, which is to promote "the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture."

Angelo Pinto. Photograph. Albert C. Barnes with "Door (anuan)" (A238), c. 1946. Photograph Collection, Barnes Foundation Archives, Philadelphia, PA. Reprinted with permission. Our founder, Dr. Albert C. Barnes (pictured at left, in 1946), believed that art had the power to improve minds and transform lives. Our diverse educational programs are based on his teachings and one-of-a-kind collections—both his art holdings and the rare trees, flowers, and other plants at the Barnes Arboretum.
